COURSE OVERVIEW
  • 6 weeks (4 hrs) theory group class.
  • 4 weeks of practical sessions.
  • Presenter and program website related requirements.

TRAINING STRUCTURE
Your course consists of a number of sessions:

  • What is Community Radio?: A two hour orientation for all trainee presenters to explain how this station works, where it fits in the overall matrix of Australian broadcasting and what you can expect from your training.
  • Your legal responsibilities - Media Law and Codes of Practice: This is a mandatory session lasting two hours. You must attend this session in order to be able to present a program.
  • Hands on training: In the studio, usually in pairs with your trainer for two hours per week. Our trainers are available on different days and at various times and we can work out times that suits you and your trainer.
  • Producing and presenting: A full one hour program. You are encouraged to participate in a real on-air trainees program. This helps to make you comfortable with the on-air studio panel and reduce those first show nerves. It may be with your trainer or with another presenter depending on the type of program you would like to present.
  • You will finally produce a 30-60 minute program demo along with your 20 - 30 sec. program promo which will be submitted on a flash drive (along with your Program Description and Presenter Bio, both 50 - 300 words) for the final assessment by our training committee.

What happens if I can’t complete the course?

We don’t give refunds once you have started the course. Therefore if you fail to show for any of the scheduled sessions, or choose to leave the course early, you will not be able to claim a refund of your course fees.

If your circumstances do change during the course and you can’t attend your arranged sessions, you can ask to be deferred to a future course and your payment will be credited to that course - provided it is within 6 months of starting.

Also, if for whatever reason you don’t attend your compulsory Media Law session, you will not be able to apply for, or present, a radio program. A special Media Law session can be arranged for an additional fee, or alternatively you can wait until the next scheduled Media Law session which you may attend at no additional charge.
