Noosa Come Together’s goal is to deliver a quality family and community event that brings everyone together to raise funds for people with disabilities in our communities.

It also gives the opportunity for charities who support people with disabilities to come together to fundraise so that they can continue to offer much needed water activities for people with disabilities in our community.

The day featured great live music from the likes of local legends Barry Charles, Bob Abbott and local disabled artists. There will be a 2nd stage delivering youth performances, a restaurant food court with cooking lessons on a smaller stage, a kids’ funfair, a charity field and river activities.

Public Events: Cash 4 Containers

On 24 January 2016 the Noosa Community put on an event at main beach to promote cash for containers. The purpose was to raise community and media interest and through this lobby their local Members of Parliament and Council to support the scheme.

The event was aired on Channel Nine and 7 evening news, extensively in local press and on social media. The community action also inspired the Sunshine Coast Daily to run its own stories on cash for containers that included a Readers Poll that showed 96% of respondents support cash for containers.

The Sunshine Coast Daily asked a number of local MPs their views and got only positive responses. We now believe that a majority of Sunshine Coast MPs support cash for containers, subject to cost and community benefits being assessed and demonstrated. We expect that the newly elected Noosa Council, in addition to its positive position on plastic bags, will also be more actively supportive of cash for containers.

The support of Sunshine Coast MPs is vital as it leads to bi-partisanship on policy to reduce plastic litter and pollution. It makes progress possible and any future legislation easier. After all, reducing litter and pollution should get everyones support.

The deal breaker that has promoted cash for containers, engaged the local media and put the issue in front of Sunshine Coast MPs was the community event of the 24 January. It is the story of a committed community making a difference.

Boomerang Alliance has put this short video together to show the day and to promote and inspire other communities right around Queensland to hold their own events in support of cash for containers. Please distribute widely.
A big thank you to Wildlife Queensland, Surfrider Sunshine Coast, Sunshine Coast Environment Council and Noosa Community Biosphere Association AND everyone who participated.
