With the introduction of the AFLW (Australian Football League Woman's) in 2017, both Senior & Junior AFL Leagues across the State have been helping community clubs promote and invite girls to come along to their local club and play Australian Football. In the past 2 years local AFL clubs have seen a wonderful rise in female participation and inclusion of further youth girls specific competitions.
Remy McDonald will turn 10 in November and already has 2 seasons of AFL against her stats. She has followed in her brothers footsteps (U14's at Coolum) and she is now playing U10 mixed on Sundays where she regularly features in the best players as well as the U11 Shannon Campbell program on Friday nights.
She trains with the U10s on Wednesday afternoon after school bit in her spare time Remy trains with the Coolum U12 teams on Tues and Thursday nights.
She also won an award at this years Sunshine coast school AFL program.
